Guests and residents of the Fairmont Palm Hotel & Resort being built within the exclusive Palm Jumeirah Development in Dubai will be able to enjoy increased peace and quiet due to a performance flooring system from Flowcrete .

All the bedroom suites and corridors of the Fairmont property will be installed with a floor screed system known as Isocrete Acoustic K.

The system will help to minimise impact sound between floors as well as providing a hard-wearing surface for installation of the final floor finishes.

Flowcrete Middle East Managing Director Andrew Gwyther said, “This is a significant achievement for us and we are proud to be involved in such a prestigious development. The developers and architects were keen to ensure that any noise generated within the apartment buildings is not transferred to occupants below or above. This unique screed system will help achieve that.”

The Acoustic K system is a special formulation of Flowcrete’s proprietary Isocrete K-Screed and reinforced with Isocrete polypropylene fibres.

The Acoustic K system will be installed at 50mm thickness over a high performance 9mm Isocrete acoustic mat on top of the pre-cast concrete floor slab. Some 23,000 square metres of the Acoustic K system will be supplied.

The K-Screed was specified in place of conventional sand/cement screed due to its high compressive strength and low water-cement ratio, which minimises shrinkage and cracking.

A further important factor in the selection was the fast drying time, enabling following trades to typically start work within 48 hours.

The news follows the recent announcement of Flowcrete’s multi-million pound contract to install their high performance car-park decking system; Deckshield, at the Jumeirah Lakes Towers Development, also in Dubai.
