FLIR Systems has introduced a new range of thermal imaging cameras designed for firefighting applications.

The new FLIR K2 and FLIR K65 have been added to FLIR’s industry-leading line-up of K-Series thermal imaging cameras (TICs) that enable firefighters to see through smoke, locate and rescue victims, identify hot spots, navigate safely, and stay better oriented during response missions.

FLIR K65 thermal imaging cameras

Fully certified to the National Fire Protection Association’s NFPA 1801-2013 standard for usability, image quality, and durability for firefighting thermal imagers, the K65 offers superior 320 x 240 thermal resolution and features FLIR’s revolutionary Flexible Scene Enhancement (FSX) technology for ultra-crisp thermal imagery and visibility in total darkness and smoke-filled rooms.

FLIR’s FSX technology heightens thermal image detail through real-time, onboard digital processing, producing an image that shows extraordinary structural and edge features. Onboard video recording and playback features in the FLIR K65 are additionally useful for debriefing and training.

FLIR K2 thermal imaging cameras

The FLIR K2 brings FLIR’s powerful life-saving thermal technology to a broader base of firefighters at an affordable price. Powered by FLIR’s revolutionary Lepton camera core, the compact K2 delivers detailed thermal images at 160 x 120 resolution. FLIR’s patented Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging (MSX) technology significantly enhances image quality, allowing firefighters to see key structural details in a variety of environments.

FLIR Vice President and General Manager of Instruments, Rickard Lindvall commented that the K65 was fully compliant with NFPA standards, showing FLIR’s strong commitment to delivering on the most important needs of the firefighting industry, while the K2 was yet another example of how FLIR’s Lepton core has made thermal imaging products more accessible.

The new K2 and K65 thermal cameras join the K55 and K45 models launched by FLIR earlier this year for the firefighting market.

The K2 will be available for purchase in late September 2015 while the K65 will be available to order from 29 June onwards through established distribution networks.

FLIR has also announced an industry-leading warranty on the K2, K45, K55, and K65 models when registered within 60 days of purchase. The new warranty covers the full camera for five years, the detector for ten years, and batteries for two years.
