Fielders Steel Roofing occupies pride of place at the Sydney Cricket Ground above the Pavilion. FreeForm, the brand new standing seam roofing solution from Fielders Manufacturing was supplied to the iconic sporting arena as part of a $197.5m redevelopment project.

Following in the footsteps of projects including the MCG, WIN Stadium, Perth Arena and Adelaide Oval, the SCG is the first in the company’s stadium portfolio to use the new profile and the largest project since FreeForm’s release in 2013. Fielders supplied more than 5,000m² of the tapered material because FreeForm suited the design capabilities of the project.

Fielders General Manager of Sales, Marketing and Engineering, Matt Lloyde explained the unique design of the new Pavilion meant the roof shape was sprung curved in a helmet-like profile requiring a roofing solution that could offer extreme flexibility in a curved application.

According to Mr Lloyde, FreeForm’s ability to create the curves made it the only profile on the market capable of delivering on the design brief. Fielders worked closely with AW Edwards and the design team during the planning phase to ensure the all-encompassing FreeForm system ticked all the boxes.

The sheets, rolled onsite using a mobile roll-former, extend to a maximum length of 45m and taper from 400mm right down to 250mm to meet the design requirements, with Fielders also supplying the soffit lining in S-Rib to complete the project.

As a local supplier, Fielders is proud to have been given the opportunity to not only demonstrate the design features of the new FreeForm system at such an iconic and exciting development, but also offer the suitable warranty that comes with Australian steel.
