Fielders Steel Roofing supplied 20,000 square metres of KingFlor CF210 decking for the recently completed luxury Meriton apartment tower in North Sydney.

Designed by Tony Caro Architects and built by Meriton, the $200m development is the first high-rise residential building in Australia to be constructed purely from structural steel. By eliminating the use of the traditional concrete frame building method, the project is considered a game-changer for the construction industry.

Featuring breath-taking views of iconic Sydney landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and Circular Quay, the 29-storey building offers 218 stylish short-stay apartments across 30 levels.

Selected for its ability to reduce the construction depth of the flooring from the traditional steel construction depth of 450mm-650mm, down to 290mm, the KingFlor CF210 SlimFlor system allows the steel construction method to compete favourably with concrete framed buildings in addition to playing an important role in speeding up the pace of work at reduced costs.

The KingFlor decking profile was supplied in June 2015 and installed by late 2015, with the entire development completed in mid-2016.

SlimFlor utilises Fielders’ CF210 flooring profile in conjunction with Asymmetric Steel Beam sections (ASB) to provide a flooring system with a reduced construction zone. By combining the floor slab and supporting structure in the same plane, SlimFlor provides a lightweight, versatile and long spanning floor system.

The KingFlor range includes five steel formwork profiles, comprising of two trapezoidal profiles, two re-entrant profiles and a deep deck profile. KingFlor is Australia’s largest range of composite steel formwork, with the longest spans and deepest profiles on the market.
