A new Carekit that conveniently combines all the elements required to comply with Australian Standard 1428.1 relating particularly to people with disabilities has been released by Caredesign specialist interiors.

The Carekit 100 integrates into one shrink-wrapped pack all the components required to provide a unisex accessible toilet as required by the Building Code of Australia for all non-residential buildings.

The national product manager of the Caredesign division of Enware Australia, Tim Knowles, says the main beneficiaries of AS 1428.1 are intended to be people with disabilities, primarily including wheelchair users.

The Standard requires that when more than one unisex accessible toilet is installed within a facility, there must be both left and right-handed designs, to provide a choice of transfer side.

“The Carekit is a unique way to bring together in one package all the basic elements required, eliminating the task of picking and matching components form various sources,” he says.

All of the products contained within the Carekit are fully compliant with the current AS1428.1 (2001) standard, and include: Care Toilet Seat – single flap (Blue); Care pan and cistern with raised flush buttons; Wall Mounted Care Basin – single tap hole; Single Lever Mixer with disabled handle design (Chrome Plated) and 32mm Stainless Steel Grab Rails

The Carekit is designed to suit both left and right hand applications. The Care Pan component can be supplied with either a “P” or “S” trap.
