Gyprock Soundchek Commercial from CSR Gyprock is a 13mm commercial grade, high-density plasterboard that has been purpose-designed to resist the passage of sound. The 13mm plasterboard was recently used for the bathroom lining in two newly-constructed high-rise beach resorts in Queensland, successfully meeting BCA sound requirements while also reducing installation costs.

When used in conjunction with steel, timber and masonry walls, the 13mm acoustic plasterboard provides a substantial improvement in the perceived quality and acoustic performance when compared to standard 13mm plasterboard.

Traditionally two layers of 10mm plasterboard would have been used to meet the sound-rating requirements of Rw 30 through the ceiling of bathroom and kitchens for multi-residential applications. Gyprock Soundchek Commercial meets BCA sound rating requirements in a single sheet providing a less labour intensive and cost-effective alternative especially for large scale projects.

Both the Kirra Beach Resort on the Gold Coast and the Savannah Beach Resort at Broad Beach are residential unit towers of approximately 14 floors. Gyprock Soundchek Commercial was selected for these projects because of its high density, allowing only one layer to be used instead of the traditional two layers of 10mm plasterboard. The labour cost of converting a two-layer system to one layer of Soundchek was far more cost-effective.
