Crimsafe security screens were specified for the Geebung Railway Overpass project to ensure safety for pedestrians using the facility. The custom manufactured security screens were installed on the pedestrian overpass by Crimsafe Security Systems licensee, Franklyn Blinds Awnings Security.

Located in Geebung, Queensland, the Geebung Railway Pedestrian Overpass was built to improve public safety at the Robinson Road level crossing. The Geebung Overpass (GO) Alliance, in collaboration with Queensland Rail initiated and delivered the $199 million Robinson Road Open Level Crossing Replacement Project.

Crimsafe security screens were specified for the infill panels on the pedestrian overpass to deliver multiple safety benefits. The installation of Crimsafe screens not only addressed a number of safety objectives but also set a new standard for future railway bridges and pedestrian overpasses.

For instance, the anti-electrification, anti-throw and anti-streaming qualities of Crimsafe security screens protect the public against the hazard of electrocution from the wires powering the trains. The high visibility of Crimsafe screens in strongly lit environments provides the commuting public greater security as they can be easily seen within the structure and also can easily see any potential threats to their personal safety.

The challenging project required 300 screens, 80% of which were raked, had cut-outs or involved out-of square frames. Since the security screens were being fitted over the railway lines, the installation needed to be carefully carried out during precise periods.

To facilitate the smooth installation of the non–standard screens and to accommodate the scheduled installations, Franklyn Blinds Awnings Security appointed a dedicated contract administrator who communicated daily with GO Alliance and worked from detailed shop drawings to ensure all sizes and angles were correct.

Based on the success of Crimsafe in this project, these security screens are being increasingly specified in similar projects, setting a solid benchmark for public safety.
