de Campo Architects has once again chosen to place their trust in THERMOMASS concrete sandwich panels from Composite Global Solutions for their new project in Sorrento, Victoria.

de Campo Architects’ latest project, Boroondara House is a two-storeyed dwelling, nestled on a gently sloping site in the coastal town of Sorrento, Victoria. Established in 1994, the architectural firm was responsible for the design of the original Thermohouse in 2001.

Having recognised the advantages of incorporating insulated thermal mass in their designs, de Campo Architects decided to focus on insulated precast construction to overcome the constraints of concrete construction. After almost 15 years of specialising in insulated concrete/masonry construction techniques, Chris de Campo observes that 'insulated thermal mass just blows everything out of the water in terms of the performance of the building'.

For their latest project in Sorrento, de Campo Architects has once again chosen to use precast THERMOMASS concrete sandwich panels.

Designed as a U-shaped structure, the building features a discreet inner courtyard complete with pool and lush native vegetation. The inner courtyard is sheltered from neighbouring properties and the hustle-and-bustle of Sorrento by precast slabs and cleverly placed vegetative privacy screens.

Featuring a natural colour palette of rough-hewn limestone, weathered timber cladding and off-white THERMOMASS insulated concrete slabs, the Boroondara House aims to add to the local landscape and vegetation as much as it intends to make a statement. Construction is expected to be completed in early November this year.

Insulation systems from Composite Global Solutions include THERMOMASS building insulation system, Goldfoam extruded polystyrene insulation, and PIR - Soffit car park insulation.
