Sandown Park’s massive grandstand will once again reverberate to the sound of the Touring Car Masters this weekend, led by Coates Hire Driver and Ambassador John Bowe’s championship winning 1969 Ford Mustang Trans Am.

When Allan Moffat first raced his Ford Mustang Trans Am at Tasmania’s Symmons Plains circuit, a young John Bowe saw it in action and dreamt of racing a car just like that one day. Many years later he fulfilled that dream, entering his own Ford Mustang Trans Am in the Touring Car Masters (TCM). About his Trans Am, Bowe said Moffat’s Mustang was the catalyst for buying the ’69 Mustang.

‘Mustang Sally’ as he affectionately refers to his beloved 1969 Trans Am has secured Bowe victory in the last two TCM championships and has him leading this year’s title chase as well. Bowe has a healthy 109 points lead over Jim Richards in the Outright class and a 28-point break over Steve Mason in the Pro-Sportsman category with two rounds remaining after the Sandown Park event.

Aside from the engine issue in Perth, and the weight penalty he has to carry, the car has been terrific all year and is still going very well.

Though he believes Sandown will be a challenge, he aims to perform well on the back of 10 wins this year.
