Clearmake Waste Water Treatment and Recycling Solutions  recently installed a water recycling system at the Department of Defence's Enoggera Barracks.

The Department of Defence wanted to make their wash down facilities more efficient, so they decided to consolidate 18 vehicle and equipment wash down stations into one facility.

The key goals of installing a water recycling system at the central wash down facility were to reduce the consumption of town water, reduce the load on the sewerage system, and ensure that all relevant environmental and OH&S requirements are met.

The Department of Defence chose Clearmake to design, manufacture, install and commission a water recycling system for the new consolidated wash down facility.

Working in partnership with GHD consulting engineers and the Department of Defence, Clearmake developed a custom water recycling system that is flexible to wash as little as a single vehicle per day through to more than 200 large vehicles per day.

The water recycling system included:

  • A Clearmake water recycling system that is capable of treating up to 80,000 litres per hour of wash down water. The water treatment system removes silt, oil and grease from the water, filters and disinfects the water, ensuring it is safe to reuse for vehicle wash down.
  • A Clearmake rain water harvesting system to ensure the site water is self sufficient and accounts for evaporation and carry over water losses. The rain water harvesting system was included to harvest water from the hardstand area, treat it and use it to top up the water recycling system.
