The recently aired, popular Channel 9 reality TV show The Block 2011 kept viewers entertained with plenty of high emotion and drama. The ready supply of quality construction products was a calming influence, helping to keep the renovators on track over the 8 week renovation projects in Melbourne.

Australian building manufacturer, Cemintel had the distinction of being selected as the sole supplier of building products to the property show.

Linda Geddes, Channel Nine spokesperson explains, “Our producers, Watercress Productions, selected Cemintel to supply building materials for various reasons. It was great to be able to go to one company, knowing they could supply all our building needs with high quality materials.”

Cemintel were able to use the show as a high profile launching platform to showcase its new external walling solution, Cemintel Designer Series. The Designer Series was installed by the renovators to the second storey exterior of three out of the four houses.

Cemintel took the opportunity to demonstrate just how well its range of building and construction products work to pull a renovation project together. Other construction products featured in the show and put to good use by the renovators include:

  • Gyprock plasterboard installed on all, non-wet area, internal walls of each home,
  • Cemintel’s SoffitLine, featuring CeminSeal waterblock technology, installed in wet areas,
  • Gyprock decorative cornices fitted throughout each renovation,
  • Headland Weatherboards used for floor linings,
  • Cemintel fibre cement,
  • Cemintel Designer Series,
  • Bradford insulation,
  • Edmonds ventilation, and
  • Bradford Insulation installed as ceiling and wall batts as well as foil lining on the wall framing.

The fourth season of The Block saw Polly and Waz’s renovated home beating the 3 other renovations to sell at auction for $855,000 which was $15,000 over their reserve, a fantastic result in today’s economic downturn.

The couple, whose previous experience didn’t extend beyond painting and provided viewers with many memorable moments walked away with the $100,000 prize and possibly a whole new career path in the building industry for Waz.

Waz described how much he had enjoyed getting involved and learning new skills such as tiling and installing plasterboard ceilings as well as creating his now famous “Great Wall of Waz”.

Rob Sindel, CEO of Cemintel, was overjoyed that their involvement with The Block assisted the renovators to create great homes that sold well the current economic climate and attributed it to the quality of the products.

Rob says, “Cemintel brands are among the most trusted and recognised businesses in the building industry, and we extremely proud of the quality and range of building products we produce.”
