The application of concrete framing on the new Parramatta Justice development in Sydney’s west has helped deliver the project six months ahead of schedule and under budget.

Construction contractor Multiplex opted for concrete framing in response to bid conditions that called for fixed price tendering and a fixed term contract.

Both conditions presented challenges, given the complexity of the multi-building project and the possibility of lost time due to the architectural significance of the site. Concrete framing met the key criteria of speed of construction, price stability and proven constructability.

The details of how concrete delivered on the project are covered in Concrete Concepts 08, the recent in the series of concrete framing case studies from Cement Concrete and Aggregates Australia .

On the Parramatta project, the design and construct solution incorporated versatile concrete band beams with post tensioning for floor structures and jump formed core construction.

The thermal mass qualities of concrete also assisted in delivering a 5 star Green Star rating for the new Justice Administration building.

Concrete Concepts is a free series of case studies that focuses on the application of concrete framing on commercial high-rise projects around Australia to deliver low cost, low risk and high speed construction solutions.
