Cement Concrete and Aggregates Australia (CCAA) is organising a topical seminar series on designing and building homes that can better withstand floods.

The Houses for Flood-Prone Areas seminar series aims to address design concerns evolving from the recent floods in Queensland and Victoria.

The seminars will be held in Sydney on May 25, Melbourne on June 1 and Brisbane on June 16.

The Houses for Flood-Prone Areas seminar is aimed at architects, designers, builders, engineers, council planners and inspectors as well as private certifiers, and coincides with the launch of a new CCAA guide by the same name.

Award-winning architect, lecturer, author and leading contributor to Standards Australia and codes, Max Granger will speak on:

  • Various design approaches to building in flood-prone sites
  • How flood events impact on these sites and designs
  • How they can be made more flood resilient through the select use of appropriate materials and construction solutions
CCAA’s Construction Solutions Engineer will also talk about concrete flooring systems for flood-prone sites, focusing on methods to economically raise concrete floors to minimise the risk and impact of flooding.

All seminar attendees will receive a copy of the new CCAA guide, Houses for Flood-Prone Areas.
