LED lighting from Brightgreen was specified for The Waiting Room, a new fashion boutique in Sydney.

Speaking with Brightgreen, Mattias Friberg, Director of Some Agency said that the primary design intent was to create a more feminine store using strong and clean elements to produce the vibrant space. The boutique was designed to be a sister store to their slightly more masculine store located at Melbourne Emporium.

Friberg decided on LEDs for the lighting design as they wanted lights that would be aesthetically appealing while giving the space a ‘natural light’ effect. Since the building was also one of the first in Australia to be 100% Green Star rated, it was really important that low-energy lights were specified for the store. They chose Brightgreen because the brand ticked every box for them.

The Waiting Room is designed to give shoppers an in-store shopping experience where they can touch, feel and see the garments in real life. The choice of Brightgreen’s Tru-Colour lights helped to represent the colours and textures of their clothes more accurately, says Friberg.

Elaborating on the design of the store, Friberg said they were particularly happy with the combination of the marble Palladiana floor together with light American oak, nude leather and pink fabrics. Everything in the store from the display tables to the shelves has a round shape, aligning with the curved floor layout.

For people who are currently choosing lights for their own retail projects, Friberg underlines the importance of good lighting design, which can have a massive effect on the overall impression of anyone walking into the store. He adds that it’s important to choose the right lights to give the showcased products that ‘extra shine’ so they stand out the minute someone walks into the store.
