The window of opportunity for architects, building designers and architectural students is closing as Boral ’s 5th annual Design Award nears its submission deadline of the 30th September.

The 2010 Boral Design Award features a generous cash prize pool that totals $34,000 and the award is an opportunity to design innovative concepts in realistic residential design, with a brief incorporating a 125sqm family home and its landscape.

Entrants were requested to respond to the challenge of Australia’s changing housing needs and reduced land sizes and to consider adaptability, sustainability and affordability.

This year the jury of industry representatives includes:

  • Tone Wheeler from Environa Studio in Sydney
  • Paul Owen from Owen and Vokes in Brisbane
  • Nick Drougas from Metricon in Melbourne; and
  • Glenn Simpkin from Boral
Jury Chair is Andrew Mackenzie, editor-in-chief of Architectural Review Australia magazine.

For their design concepts, entrants are asked to specify from a range of selected Boral products including timber, bricks, pavers, decorative concrete, roof tiles, windows and bi-fold doors.

Boral Design Award entrants must submit a written component and digital imagery of up to five physical models or 3D renders of their concept. The entry pack, in addition to resources, can be downloaded from the Boral Design Award website.
