Big River Group supplied several products from their building materials range for the refurbishment of the student accommodation at Macquarie University.

The 2012 upgrade of the Robert Menzies College student accommodation building on the Macquarie University campus in North Ryde, aimed to modernise the facilities while ensuring balance with the existing architecture.

Designed by Allen Jack + Cottier architects with construction management by Grindley Construction, the $10 million refurbishment project encompassed the complete redesign of the 4-storey, 103-bed student residency, covering a total area of 5,527 square metres. The upgrade work included private bathrooms, private or communal kitchenettes, internet connections, lounge rooms and seminar rooms.

From an environmental perspective, the project also applied passive solar principles with custom sun-shading elements, incorporated cross-ventilation for all common areas and corridors, and installed insulated facades.

Big River materials used in the project included the durable Matrix fibre cement cladding, Linea weatherboard cladding, as well as Spotted Gum timber decking.
