Mark Volmer has been appointed as the head of BASF - The Chemical Company’s Construction Chemicals Asia Pacific business unit based in Shanghai.

In this position, Mark Volmer will assume the responsibility for setting the regional direction to further expand the business.

The region is expected to be a key contributor to the sustainable growth in the global BASF’s Construction Chemicals business.

The regional business unit Construction Chemicals Asia Pacific serves various markets across Japan, Greater China, Pacific (Australia / New Zealand), South Asia, ASEAN, and Korea.

BASF is an innovator in the construction chemicals market in Asia Pacific with more than 50 production sites and approximately 1,500 employees in the region.

As a customised solution provider, BASF supplies a full range of construction chemicals from admixture systems for concrete, and cement additives and performance flooring products, building systems to its customers in the construction industry.

Mark Volmer was born in the Netherlands in 1964 and holds degrees in physical chemistry and business administration. He joined BASF in 1990 and since then, he worked across disciplines in both Germany and Hong Kong.

During his professional career, he held several positions in marketing, sales and new business development for BASF’s Intermediates Division.

As of March 2000, Mark Volmer was promoted to Director, Procurement Asia Pacific based in Hong Kong before assuming his current responsibilities in 2005 as Group Vice President, responsible for the Business Unit Acids and Specialty Intermediates Europe, based in Germany.
