Styrodur C thermal insulation available from BASF - The Chemical Company is compliant with Green Star NZ requirements.

The Green Star NZ compliance certifies that Styrodur C building insulation does not contain any ozone depleting substances, nor does it require the use of these substances during manufacture.

Moreover, buildings insulated with Styrodur C may apply for one Green Star credit.

Mr Alex Reiche, Director, EnviroSpec and a Green Star NZ Accredited Professional, says that he is pleased with the efforts invested by suppliers into providing environmentally preferable options, especially in light of research that establishes the benefits of insulation for building energy use.

Building insulation materials have faced issues with the blowing agents that can lead to high GWP (global warming potential) and ODP (ozone depleting potential) factors.

Mr Reiche observes Styrodur’s ODP of zero and a claimed GWP of just one create a high performance solution that truly helps designers achieve their sustainable design objectives.

Mr KinWah Chay, Head of Business Management, Foams Asia Pacific, BASF comments the product’s low GWP and ODP readings support their claim that Styrodur C is an environmentally preferable extruded polystyrene insulation solution, which can contribute to climate protection and reduction of greenhouse gases.

Key features of Styrodur C thermal insulation

  • Green extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation product
  • Typically used for thermal insulation of building components subject to pressure and moisture
  • Free of CFCs, HCFCs and HFCs (chlorofluorocarbons, hydrochlorofluorocarbons and hydrofluorocarbons)
  • Contains air as cell gas that helps ensure insulation performance over the building’s lifetime
  • Significantly reduces the consumption of energy used for cooling and heating buildings, helping to lower energy bills as well as carbon dioxide emissions
  • Typically used in applications for roof insulation, perimeter insulation and floor thermal insulation
  • Rot-proof and easy to handle on site

Styrodur C thermal insulation can also be used as a load-bearing layer under roads and rail tracks or in any other application where high compressive strength and water resistance combined with highly sustainable insulation properties are required.

The Green Star NZ rating system is operated by the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC). All product claims were reviewed and confirmed by EnviroSpec Verification Services.
