Australian Disabled Access Consultants  helped to influence the arrangement of disabled access and wheelchair access within a new 2 storey retail shopping centre complex within the Wallacia Commercial Centre.

Designed by Katris & Associates Architects of Burwood, the 2 story shopping centre is intended to provide disabled access into and within:

  1. The ground floor retail shopping centre, and 
  2. The ground level and basement car parking floors with disabled parking spaces with vertical elevator lifts and ramps to the ground floor retail shopping level.
Australian Disabled Access Consultants made sure that Katris & Associates of Burwood provided disabled access within the design of the shopping centre including:

  • Accessible toilet facilities 
  • Building entries 
  • Continuous safe paths of travel into the building that includes ramps 
  • Continuous safe paths of travel throughout the overall building 
  • Continuous safe paths of travel within the external pathway 
  • Continuous safe paths of travel within the basement parking floor 
  • Doorway widths and corridor widths 
  • Floor-ceiling heights along all movement pathways 
  • High rise elevator lift for disabled access to the retail floor level 
  • Parking and driveway arrangements 
  • Ramps and handrails 
  • Wheelchair access
Australian Disabled Access Consultants prepared the disabled access assessment report for the development application to ensure compliance with: 
  1. The guiding principles of the Disabilities Discrimination Act. 
  2. Penrith City Council’s disabled access and wheelchair access Development Control Plan,
  3. Australian Standards AS1428.1, AS1428.2 and AS2890.1 disabled access and wheelchair access design guidelines.
