Australian Disabled Access Consultants assisted Suters Architects and the NSW Department of Commerce with disabled access and wheelchair access design details for the Queanbeyan Hospital Dental Care Clinics in the Illawarra Region on the New South Wales south coast.
Australian Disabled Access Consultants agreed on the Suters Architects innovative alternate design solution for disabled access and wheelchair access in the circulation area within the Dental Care Clinics. The design included:
- Clinic room furniture fit-outs
- Continuous and safe pathways of travel
- Corridor widths and handrails
- Doorway and doorway approaches and circulation areas
- Maximising the utility of a dental care facility by providing disabled access
Australian Disabled Access Consultants’ approval of the alternative design solution made sure that disabled access fell within the compliance of Australian Standards AS1428.1 disabled access design guidelines, the guiding principles of the Disabilities Discrimination Act and Part D3 of the Building Code of Australia disabled access design standards.
Australian Disabled Access Consultants explained that the disabled access alternative design solution report required compliance with:
- The disabled access guiding principles of the Disabilities Discrimination Act
- The deemed to satisfy alternate design solution standards under Part D3 of the Building Code of Australia
