Australian Disabled Access Consultants negotiated an assisted entry access solution as well as an access management plan for a restaurant fit-out project in Surry Hills in Sydney’s southern suburbs.

The restaurant located at 454 Cleveland Street, Surry Hills required a compliant fit-out for assisted entry disabled access into and within the premises, which was being designed by Future Form Creative Designers of Chippendale.

The restaurant is part of a two-storey mixed development building with a ground floor shop having a 110mm high principal entry doorway threshold step that prevents a step-less entry pathway of travel.

Australian Disabled Access Consultants provided disabled access design advice to ensure the fit-out was compliant with the principles of the Disabilities Discrimination Act 1992, Part D3 of the Building Code of Australia and Australian Standards AS1428.1-2009.

The disabled access and wheelchair access guidelines were considered for the principal front entry doorway’s clear opening width and circulation area; continuous safe pathway of travel into the restaurant and to the customer service area; pathways of travel widths and heights; and fitments.

Australian Disabled Access Consultants prepared the disabled access assessment report for the fit-out’s compliant design elements and congratulated Future Form Creative Designers for its innovative fit-out design techniques to improve disabled access within the restaurant for people living with disability.

Additionally, the restaurant’s entry doorway threshold step prevented smooth pathway of travel to the customer service counter and dining/seating area.

Australian Disabled Access Consultants prepared an assisted entry alternate solution supported by an access management plan for disabled access to enable people with a disability to reach the customer service counter and dining/seating area within the restaurant in an equitable, dignified and safe manner in compliance with the principles of the Disability Discrimination Act and the disabled access objectives and provisions of Part D3 of the Building Code of Australia and the Disability Access to Premises Standards 2010.
