A new DVD by Australian Brick and Blocklaying Training Foundation (ABBTF) promotes the trade of bricklaying as a worthwhile career.

Available for viewing online at the ABBTF website, the DVD features apprentices, bricklayers, builders, employers and trainers relating their real life experiences in the trade, according to Geoff Noble, ABBTF's general manager.

The informative DVD takes viewers through the process of bricklaying on residential and commercial projects interspersed with interviews with tradespeople who relate why they took up the trade. The DVD lays out all that needs to be known about bricklaying from the perspective of people involved in the construction industry, says Geoff Noble.

Viewers can learn all about bricklaying as a career and the prospects for future advancement in the construction industry.

Based on extensive ABBTF research, the DVD highlights ten main benefits of a bricklaying career, listing out key motivating factors for bricklayers such as working outdoors, getting a qualification, good remuneration, being one’s own boss and increasing opportunities caused by skills shortage among others.

Geoff Noble says that they aimed to produce an easy-to-follow guide to a bricklaying career for prospective apprentices and their families incorporating people who were totally involved in the industry as the stars in the DVD.

The DVD will provide an ideal link to ABBTF's field programs including Step Out Programs (SOPs) in schools where students build a school project in brick under the guidance of an expert in addition to pre-apprenticeship programs and Career Expos.
