The Australasian Furnishing Research and Development Institute , also known as Furntech is a provider of standards, testing, product certification and research for both buyers and sellers of furniture. The organisation is independent and does not run for profit.

The institution aims to improve the standard of quality and safety of all furniture sold in Australia and New Zealand. They also see it is important that all furnishing buyers and sellers are provided with product insurance and technical support.

Testing and certification ensures that all the products are safe, sustainable and use as little of the earths resources as possible. Most of the products that are tested are done so to establish industry standards however future plans include developing a more consumer focused standard. A plan to identify leather against other materials that look similar is one example of this.

Desks, swivel chairs, filing cabinets and storage furniture are just some of the commercial products that are tested by. Domestic products such as household cots, table bases, recliner chairs and dining chairs are also tested by Furntech.
