Leading modular solutions provider Ausco Modular recently completed one of its biggest school installations in Australia with the delivery of new classrooms at the Dale Christian School in Perth.

Students at the Perth school have begun term two in new, state-of-the-art classrooms and facilities designed and built by Ausco Modular.

Ausco Modular General Manager – Western Australia Leo Crohan said his project team worked closely with the school to design buildings that were completely customised to the needs of the students and teachers who would be using them. Mr Crohan explained that the company provided an end-to-end solution for the school encompassing design, construction, installation, and complete fit-out of the buildings including safety and fire compliance.

The project required full-service areas for home economics, industrial arts, science and music classes, canteen and uniform store facilities as well as traditional classrooms and teachers’ offices with all of the associated amenities such as bathrooms, safety measures and elevator and stair access.

According to Mr Crohan, advancements in modular construction processes over the past few years have enabled Ausco Modular to offer solutions that are on par with permanent alternatives in terms of construction, design and lifespan but are available at a fraction of the cost and time.

Mr Crohan said site works for the project were fully completed in just six months, which was less than half the time of a traditional ‘bricks and mortar’ construction process and significantly less disruptive to students, staff, parents and residents in the local community.

Since the bulk of the site works were required to be completed during the school term, Ausco Modular worked with the school and the local community to minimise disruption. However, this also required the company to work around peak traffic and school drop-off and pick-up times and avoid weekend work so as not to disrupt surrounding residents. There was the additional responsibility to ensure the safety of students while they were at school, which meant heavy machinery works were minimised on-site.

Dale Christian School Principal Fred Galsworthy said the completed building exceeded his expectations in all aspects from the quality of the fitting to Ausco Modular’s time management. He added that the liaison between Ausco Modular and Dale Christian School was outstanding throughout every phase of the project, which minimised impact on their school community.
