ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions Australia supplied accessible door furniture for a major architecturally designed specialist disability housing project in Sydney.

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Scott Morrison opened the pilot accommodation unit of the DPN Casa Capace Project in Oran Park, Sydney. The project aims to support and enhance the lives of people living with disability through purpose-built accessible housing.

The DPN Casa Capace prototype home for NDIS participants was completed in partnership with institutional investors and disability care providers.

“This project is close to my heart. People with a disability have a right to live independently with support and to feel like equal citizens of the community. This housing project provides people with a state-of-the-art purpose-built house that they can proudly call their home,” says ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions National Sales Manager – Specifications, Brad Young.

“There is a growing demand for specialist disability accommodation in Australia. Over the next five years, ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions Australia will continue to be part of this billion-dollar project, providing door furniture to approximately 1000 houses Australia-wide. Being part of creating resident-centric, beautiful and accessible homes for people with a disability is a privilege.

“The new Lockwood Brass Core Range was the perfect fit for this project as the brief stated the importance of moving away from a clinical or institutional feel. The aim being to create a space where people feel safe, valued and like they belong.

“We utilised levers with a black finish to complement the space and fit in with the other joinery details in the house.

“The Lockwood Brass Core range is proudly designed and assembled in Australia. Quality is synonymous with the Lockwood brand and the stylish new levers are not only durable, but also meet the Australian Standard AS1428.1 – Design for Access and Mobility.

“We were delighted to also get such a great response to the first house. The Prime Minister came to open the property and the residents were proud to move into their new home.

“Openings Studio, our BIM enabled software was used to harvest and use the information in a manner that was conducive. Making repeat specification so much easier and it also enables staff across Australia to access the brief.

“We also collaborated with our Entrance Systems division, who supplied automated doors for the project.”

The DPN Casa Capace prototype home combines architectural design and pleasing aesthetics with assistive technology to support residents with independent living. The thoughtful design also ensures that every product and solution used complements the space.
