Elevate Series 424 commercial framing from Architectural Window Systems helped the building designer create a home that met all the requirements of the owners’ brief.
The owners of the ‘Batman House’ in Launceston sought a home design that would help them monitor their young children from every angle. When Mike Cleaver of Clever Designs first visited the site, he noticed the cable-hung Batman Bridge, which became the design trigger for the proposed home.
The designer created a tensile structure whose simple form masked the true complexity of the design. Emulating the bridge, the tensile rods achieve openness, depth and transparency in conjunction with high-performance double glazing.
The dramatic cantilever of the main living spaces punctuates the landscape, allowing for maximum passive solar gain, while the home is completely wrapped in high-performance double glazing. Having used AWS systems in previous projects, choosing the Elevate Series 424 commercial framing was a no-brainer, says the designer.
He explained that AWS’ suites allowed him to mix and match to achieve the desired design outcomes in the custom-built project. Working with the manager of Glass Supplies, the Tasmanian fabricator for AWS, and the client, the designer selected various products from AWS including the Series 424 double glazed CentreGLAZE 102mm framing, Series 52 commercial doors, and Series 704 SlideMASTER sliding doors.
Series 424 CentreGLAZE shopfront framing measures 102mm x 50mm and is designed specifically to accept 24mm Insulating Glass Units (IGUs). The 28mm deep glazing pocket is designed to accept thick heavy IGUs and allows glass to be installed easily. Series 424 frames are designed for use with Series 50, 51 and 52 commercial doors.
