A centrally-located courtyard is the most important design feature of the aptly-named Courtyard House. Built on a cleared block of barren land in the heart of Melbourne’s Templestowe Lower, the house has been designed by the architects, Figr to meet all the challenges of the site’s location. The final outcome is a beautiful home with almost every room allowing the owners to enjoy the central courtyard at any time of the day or night, thanks to the use of Magnum black powder-coated sliding doors from Architectural Window Systems.
Fabricator K&B Windows also supplied Viridian ComfortPlus double-glazing, huge expanses of which protect the home from the intense heat of summer as well as the fierce chill of the Melbourne winter. In addition, the massive sliding doors create welcome cross-ventilation throughout the beautiful living areas, reducing the need for expensive cooling and heating systems, and contributing immensely to the project meeting strict sustainability standards.
The hallway follows the curved line of the building’s western wall, which is punctuated with tall windows that flood the home with pristine morning light.
