Record Automated Doors has recently completed the feature underwater glazing at Sydney Wildlife World for the crocodile enclosure.
Record Automated Doors was chosen to design, supply and install an underwater glass wall for the new enclosure. The Underwater glazing had to be capable of withstanding the load from the 5 metre long male saltwater crocodile, that could weigh up to 800kg, as well as the load of the water.
Record Automated Doors has past experience from the Polar Bear Exhibit at Sea World. Record Automated Doors designed the underwater glass wall that consisted of 10 panels of glass that were 2300mm in height with widths ranging up to 1700mm.
The underwater glazing is 66.84mm toughened laminated with Sentry Plus interlayers. Due to access restrictions, each panel was lifted into position by hand, a task requiring 14 tradesmen per panel.
The underwater glazing was then sealed with specifically designed underwater gaskets, with structural silicon and stainless steel cover plates securing the glass panels in place.
In addition to the underwater glazing, Record Automated Doors also installed 32.28mm toughened laminated glass to a dry wall within the enclosure. This glazing also uses a Sentry Plus interlayer to help withstand possible impact from the crocodile.
