LED lights from Aglo Systems have been incorporated into the lighting design planned by interior designers Red Design Group for Mecca Maxima’s store fitout project.

A leading Australian cosmetics retailer operating a chain of stores in major cities countrywide, Mecca Maxima is a one-stop beauty destination stocking some of the hottest and trendiest brands in makeup products in a glamorous and interactive environment.

Engaged by Mecca Maxima for the fitout project, Red Design Group worked with Aglo Systems’ lighting design department to specify LED fittings for the stores as per the requirements of the brief. The design brief sought 90CRI fittings for excellent colour rendering of the makeup colours on display, and a warm 3000K colour temperature.

To avoid glare, the downlights for the makeup artist application desks required a specific angle and distance range between the fitting and the customer. LED strip lighting was placed within the mirror cabinetry to provide front-on lighting and remove unflattering shadowing on the customer’s face.

Aglo’s LED strip lighting was also used throughout the store to provide contrast, accents, halo effects and mood lighting. It was placed underneath shelving, in ceiling recesses around the store perimeter as cove lighting and above the mirror false ceiling for up-lighting.

Wide beam angles were used for the downlights illuminating the wall signage to provide even illumination and minimise scalloping. LED downlights recessed into the ceiling mirrors were customised for Mecca with a silver trim to help them blend into the background.

Aglo Systems has already supplied LED fittings for five Mecca store locations.
