A-Plan Kitchens  was recently approached by Channel Nine’s Domestic Blitz to provide a new kitchen design for the van Ruth family. A-Plan Kitchens were keen to create an unforgettable kitchen makeover and The Laminex Group immediately sprang to mind as the perfect partner.

Aired on 13 September, 2009, the final episode saw them surprise an inspiring individual, Sharman van Ruth, a single mother of two from NSW whose daughter is being treated for bone cancer.

A-Plan Kitchens was challenged to provide a totally new kitchen design to help make life easier for the time-poor family. A-Plan Kitchens was dedicated to incorporating high quality finishes to craft a chic look and functional design, and wanted to work with the best in the industry. Enter Australian manufacturer and distributor of premium decorative surfaces, The Laminex Group.

Ebony Bellezza, one of the newest additions to the Laminex Colour Palette, was carefully chosen for the custom-designed cabinet doors, setting the tone and bringing the kitchen into vogue with its contemporary wood grain and striking linear contrast.

Matching horizontal wood grain finish was used on the base cabinets to increase the visual width of the narrow room and aluminium profile handles completed the cabinetry’s striking look.

Michael Terley, A-Plan Kitchens said “The tall cabinetry featuring the horizontal Laminex finish created an immediate impact, which is a simple but effective design statement in a family home and works wonders in giving the illusion of a larger room.”

The versatility of the Laminex décor meant it worked in harmony with every all aspects of the kitchen design, from the servery window and solid surface bench top to the all-new stainless steel appliances and cushioned seating area in the corner.

“It was important that form and function are given equal consideration in the kitchen design, from the planning and design stages, right through to its place as the central room in the family’s everyday life,” said Mr Terley.

“Throughout the project, we used materials that we were confident would be simple for us to work with, easy for the family to maintain and have superior durability,” he said.

The kitchen was designed and built by A-Plan Kitchens in just five working days, and the simplicity of using Laminex products greatly assisted this process.

Adam Jarski, Marketing Communications Manager of The Laminex Group commented, “The Laminex Group is thrilled to have been given the opportunity to contribute to such a worthwhile kitchen project. We truly hope the van Ruth family enjoy their incredibly unique kitchen for many years to come.”
