Walter Brooke has announced that long-standing associate directors Anthony Balsamo and
Mark Berlangieri have become the firm’s newest directors.

After 46 years Walter Brooke has built a strong reputation for their design solutions—leading with ideas, experiences, and creative commercial outcomes inspired by the creation of spaces and places that people want to explore.

The new directors, Balsamo and Berlangieri, are renowned in Adelaide for their transparency, integrity and ability to develop accessible solutions to complex briefs.

Their strong, long-term partnership originated while studying together at the University of Adelaide, and, after joining Walter Brooke within months of each other, they have enjoyed a 17 year working relationship.

Over the last 17 years, they have built a reputation as contemporary and progressive creators who have been instrumental in continually advancing the firm’s service and design quality.

Director Eddie Typek says, “We are proud to announce our new Directors, Anthony Balsamo and Mark Berlangieri, whose visionary leadership skills will guide Walter Brooke’s credible and trusted team, and secure and inspire new talent for the future."

"Their outstanding project outcomes for all key stakeholders and project partners alongside their intimate understanding of wider community objectives will ensure Adelaide’s cityscape remains in experienced and talented hands.”

Having worked on some of South Australia’s largest projects, including as Lead Precinct Architect for the iconic Adelaide Oval Redevelopment, Anthony Balsamo is among South Australia’s most accomplished architects.

His collaborative and passionate approach ensures creative outcomes are informed by extensive local knowledge and fresh, perceptive thinking. His extensive contribution to the profession was recognised in 2017 when he was awarded the National Emerging Architect Prize.

“Mark and I are thankful for the opportunity to utilise our strengths and expertise to lead the current and new generation of architects and designers at Walter Brooke."

"Working so closely with Mark over the last 17 years has allowed me to appreciate his collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach which perfectly interrelates internal and external spaces. His belief in a considered balance across master planning, built form, landscape and interior disciplines creates well-resolved spaces that are imbued with meaning and identity.”

A passionate believer in design quality, Mark Berlangieri, lead architect for Interiors for Eos by SkyCity, strives to create projects that make statements while achieving unrivalled creative commercial outcomes.

His diverse project experience ranges across both architecture and interior design and encompasses multiple sectors, including educational, institutional and commercial facilities, such as the recently completed Government Offices at Port Adelaide.

Berlangieri says, “I am excited to continue my partnership with Anthony as we take
new leadership roles within Walter Brooke."

"Anthony’s leadership from the inception to completion of projects ensures he thoroughly understands each client’s project and tailors designs that lend a competitive edge, while his encouragement for his team to travel the creative journey with him is only one of his indispensable leadership qualities."

Recognised by the Australian Institute of Architects as the recipient of the National Emerging Architect Prize, he is an incredible talent in the architecture industry and I am proud to work alongside him.

“We can’t wait to see our new vision for the future of Walter Brooke to come to fruition,” Berlangieri concludes.

As the Walter Brooke team looks to reinvigorate for a post-COVID world, Mark and Anthony’s local relationships and industry knowledge are perfectly suited to lead the next chapter of an already 46 year-strong history - perfectly signified by the place-making Eos by SkyCity.
