Professor Shane Murray, dean of Monash University’s Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture has been appointed as a Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA).
As a member of the Victorian Government’s Design Review Panel and an advisor to the current metropolitan planning strategy, Plan Melbourne, professor Murray is an awarded designer who has been published in numerous architecture journals and who has also supervised more than fifty masters and doctoral candidates.
He has also curated various architecture exhibitions, including co-directing the Australian Institute of Architect’s Australian Pavilion at the 2006 Venice Architecture Biennale.
The appointment recognises his outstanding contribution to architecture, over a career spanning more than thirty years. In this time, he has focused on leadership and establishing programs in architectural education. He is currently focusing on research on contemporary housing and urban design issues.
“To be recognised by my peers and the institute is an honour” says Murray.
“Architecture is fundamentally at the core of everything I do, being able to contribute to the profession through research and practice and help shape the educational journey of future architects is a something I am very proud to be a part of,” he says.
