The University of Technology Sydney announces the appointment of Professor Elizabeth Mossop as the next Dean of the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building.  

A highly respected urbanist and landscape architect, Professor Mossop has a distinguished academic career spanning 25 years across universities in the United States and Australia.

She was most recently Professor of Landscape Architecture and Director of the Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture at Louisiana State University, one of the highest ranked landscape architecture programs in the US. Professor Mossop was previously the Director of the Masters of Landscape Architecture program at the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

She is also a founding principal of Spackman Mossop & Michaels landscape architects, an award-winning practice based in Sydney and New Orleans that specialises in the design of public landscapes, parks, urban spaces and infrastructure in Australia and the United States.

UTS Vice-Chancellor Professor Attila Brungs said they were deeply impressed by her commitment to excellence as well as cross-disciplinary research and teaching, collaborating with engineering, technology, health and other disciplines. Professor Brungs added that Professor Mossop’s teaching and research in urban landscape design and multi-functional infrastructure have a strong sustainability focus, which will strengthen UTS' significant capacity in this area.

Professor Mossop said she was passionate about the power of design and its role in society, and looked forward to the opportunity to work in a city with a strong design culture and sophisticated environmental values.

Professor Mossop will take up her new post in mid-2016.
