Landscape architecture luminaries Arcadia last week announced a number of promotions and key senior appointments to its expanding national footprint that will support the practice’s workload on a number of open space projects.

Alex Longley, Arcadia’s Founding Principal, says he is ecstatic to announce the promotions and acquisitions the landscape architecture practice has made in the recent past.

“We are thrilled to announce the promotions of Andrew Mason to Senior Associate and Daniel Spicer and Georgia Alexander to Associate. One of our priorities is to support our designers with individualised training and mentoring to develop their careers. Andrew was Arcadia’s first employee when I started the business 10 years ago, so watching how he’s evolved, and the appreciation we hear from clients about his meticulous approach to design, is especially meaningful,” he says.

“There are many opportunities at Arcadia as the built industry, government, and broader society places greater value on the pivotal role great open spaces play in our everyday life. We’ve extended our leadership with a number of significant new hires who will bring a diversity of experience in the design and delivery of large-scale urban design and landscape architecture projects,” says Michael Barnett, Principal, Arcadia Landscape Architecture.

“Our new Queensland Principal, Ben Newell, will be a strong addition to Arcadia, bringing passion and experience in the design and delivery of both large-and small scale integrated public realm and infrastructure projects including significant waterfront public realm projects.”

Joining Arcadia shortly after its launch 10 years ago, Andrew Mason has been elevated to a Senior Associate position in Sydney. Mason has become a pillar of the practice’s team, sharing a number of insights developed through his work on a number of eclectic projects. He has also played a key role in the development of Arcadia’s BIM strategy and implementation and has grown a reputation for rigour and attention to detail, through achieving exceptional outcomes managing large document packages and construction detailing.

Daniel Spicer has been promoted to the position of Associate, possessing the experience of working on projects of all sizes, using his strong skills for communication and innovation to successfully collaborate on multidisciplinary teams. Recent projects include State Significant and city-shaping public domain projects, working in complex packages.

Based in Hobart, Georgia Alexander has also been promoted to Associate. Georgia has established a local presence in Tasmania while successfully managing NSW projects. She has built strong connections with local architects and designers, collaborating with them on a range of Tasmanian projects, while travel to Sydney keeps her connected to her work in NSW. Alexander has experience working on high-end residential, small and large commercial projects and master planning projects.

Moving towards appointments, Arcadia’s Queensland studio has announced Ben Newell as the studio’s new Principal, to work alongside Principal Nathan Clausen to ensure Arcadia continues to build momentum and growth in an exciting time for the Queensland construction industry. Ben has 20 years of experience in landscape and urban design, primarily in large residential, commercial and mixed-use development projects throughout Australia, the Middle East and China.

Zinate Wehbe has also joined Arcadia as Associate, bringing nearly 10 years of local and international experience to the team. With a strong passion for design and detailing, she has extensive experience in leading projects through all stages of design from initial concept, planning submissions through to construction and practical completion.
