Riverlee has crossed the first hurdle in their billion-dollar plan to develop a 51-hectare site in Epping.
The Melbourne-based developer recently received council support with the City of Whittlesea voting in favour of the proposed $1.2 billion mixed-use development of the former quarry and landfill sitet.
However, this is just the beginning of a long process, which will include an environmental assessment of the site and a community consultation and could take up to 18 months before work can even begin on Riverlee’s Epping project.
The proposed mixed-use development will include a 300-bed private hospital, a 200-place childcare centre, 200 aged care beds, 2000 homes, 80,000 square metres of commercial space, and over 11 hectares of green spaces and recreational areas.
Riverlee director David Lee expressed confidence that the development approval for the masterplan will be given soon.
Lee notes that the Epping project presents an excellent opportunity to create one of the largest integrated healthcare, education and knowledge precincts in the state of Victoria.
