Japanese design company MUJI has created a prefabricated home that employs a spilt-level system in order to maximise the limited space available within a small residential plot.

Intended for the dense inner city of Tokyo, the timber clad narrow house is spread across three-storeys, with the multiple split-levels connected in a logical sequence by a series of wooden platforms and staircases.

A storage area is located on the ground floor, followed by a utility area on the lower storey, then a lounge room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom respectively.

The home contains no interior walls or doors and large north facing windows flood the open floor plan with sunlight.

The space is kitted out with MUJI’s trademark functional, natural and simply designed products and furnishings.
