The City of Sydney has topped rankings in a new global sustainability report.
The CDP organisation (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) has ranked more than 570 cities to identify those excelling on climate disclosure. Sydney received the top score for the Asia Pacific region, and ranked globally alongside Cleveland, Durban, Mexico City and Paris.
CDP is the most comprehensive collection of self-reported environmental data in the world, according to the organisation. This data is used to create detailed analysis on environmental risks, impacts and opportunities.
“Through Sustainable Sydney 2030, we have set ourselves some of the most ambitious sustainability targets in the world,” says City of Sydney lord mayor Clove Moore.
“To achieve our goal of net zero emissions by 2050, we are working with developers and the community to raise sustainability standards across the entire local government area. We are also investing in green infrastructure and increasing our renewable energy use.
“This number one ranking means we have been recognised internationally for our exemplary reporting and collection of environmental data.”
