The Sustainable House Day opens on Sunday 13 September with 150 green homeowners across Australia eager to showcase their environmentally sustainable homes to the public.

The free event presents an excellent opportunity for people to inspect new homes and renovations that push the boundaries for sustainable design, garden design, renewable energy and energy efficiency. Features such as green roofs, thermal mass walls, backyard aquaponics and food farms, battery back-up and off-grid energy systems, hot water heat pumps and electric cars will be on display at various houses across the country, enabling the visiting public to learn from the experience.

Talks and tours will be held on the day by homeowners as well as sustainable architects and designers.

Now in its 15th year, the Sustainable House Day is jointly run by the not-for-profit Alternative Technology Association (ATA) and the EnviroShop.

ATA's chief executive Donna Luckman comments that Sustainable House Day is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to be inspired about what they can achieve in their own home and garden.
