Industry heavyweights are rallying behind new Queensland sustainable building event, SEE Sustainable Experience 2015, which provides an education-based platform for industry participants to showcase the products and solutions that enable the creation of efficient and healthy homes and buildings.

The first of its kind in Australia, the event will take place from 18-20 June 2015, allowing sustainable stories to be shared with industry professionals and the community. It is designed to be all about sustainability rather than simply being an add-on to a building show.

The full program will be released in April 2015, but will include:

  • A sustainability stage – open and free sessions allowing visitors to engage and learn from the varied perspectives of Australia’s leading sustainability minds, supporting partners and product experts.
  • SEE Seminar Series – focusing on a variety of industry-specific themes, seminars hosted by leading industry associations will run throughout the three days
  • Grand Stand – short presentations will run in this space, creating a relaxed environment to learn about product innovations and applications
  • Case Studies of residential developments, high-rise installations, commercial building and more will be on display around the Experience floor
  • Building Designer Info Points – design experts on hand to advise and discuss upcoming projects
  • Designer Meetings – innovative speed-date format for engaged consumers to meet designers and discuss ideas and create relationships

“We are thrilled that industry associations have responded so positively to our event…They see it like we see it, the importance of propelling sustainability further into the day to day operations of professionals building homes to office blocks,” says Cameron Rosen, managing director of Australian Living, the creators of the event in partnership with FMX Business Solutions.

One organisation that has expressed its excitement to be associated with SEE Sustainable Experience 2014 is Master Builders.

“We know that sustainable building practices are sometimes seen as costing more and adversely impacting on housing affordability, so we’re keen to explore how this view can be challenged,” says Master Builders’ executive director, Grant Galvin.

“The reality is that the majority of Queensland’s residential building industry is largely made up of small businesses, which means that price usually wins over innovation in this space.

“Whether or not a home includes sustainable features is usually driven by consumer demand, so we believe the key to ensuring home buyers and renovators and the building industry embrace sustainable building practices and materials are price, availability and education.”

Australian Green Development Forum has also supported the event, believing that the showcase of new product offerings and innovative concepts will help generate positive development for future Australian buildings. Global GreenTag and Ecospecifier Global, organisations committed to driving demand for sustainable products, have echoed their encouragement too.

“Our combined involvement in this event supports Queensland’s built environment professionals to protect our natural systems by wise choice of products and design. Ecospecifier and Global GreenTag’s mission is to empower not just individuals but the whole industry by doing their green product research for them and enabling them to make greener product choices through their Sustainable Experience,” says David Baggs, CEO and program director.

Another supporting partner for the event is Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA), with CEO Rupert Posner noting that SEE Sustainable Experience 2015 shares the same objectives as GECA – to enable consumers to make more sustainable choices.

Other supporting partners for the event include the Building Designers Association of Queensland, EnviroDevelopment (initiative of Urban Development Institute of Australia Queensland), Association of Building Sustainability Assessors, Building Designers Australia and Australian Institute of Landscape Designers and Managers.
