There will be calls for the Australian Government to create the position of national government architect, when ACIF (Australian Construction Industry Forum) releases its a range of policies in April, 2014.

The group has announced it will release a range of policies intended to improve the productivity of the industry, covering seven key areas of the process of delivering economic and social infrastructure.

One of those areas is ‘design and construction for a sustainable industry’, under which the first point is that the “Australian Government should appoint a Government Architect to provide design leadership”.

ACIF also declares it supports calls for the Federal Government to appoint a 'Minister for Cities', and included in that Minister's portfolio (or that of the Industry Minister), thr responsibility for coordinating the role of government agencies as buyers of services.

They also call on Governments to provide incentives to encourage the alteration, retrofitting and rebuilding of our current building stock.

It is also emphasised that industry must continue to promote to all clients whole-of-life costs and benefits.

The policies will be posted in full on the ACIF website in April.
