Ministers of the Australian Government in conjunction with key industry organisations will announce the new Living Cities Alliance at the Parliament House today.

Minister for the Environment Greg Hunt and Shadow Minister for Infrastructure & Transport and Shadow Minister for Cities Anthony Albanese will be speaking and participating in th event, as is Federal MP for Melbourne Adam Brandt of the Australian Greens.

The day will also see contributions from over 40 organisations such as Engineers Australia, The Planning Institute of Australia, The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects and the Green Building Council of Australia

A workshop featuring a range of industry representatives will help develop an Action Plan and Report to be submitted to Hunt's department to inform in advance, the Government's Cities Policy Forum Position Paper and Summit being released early this year. The report will outline the economic, health and environmental benefits of various innovative, greener city initiatives that could be implemented in Australia's urban centres.

All the Ministers will be speaking at the event in the morning, with Q&A sessions post speech.

The Living Cities Alliance announcement will call on key organisations working across all urban planning, infrastructure, utilities and greening sectors to join the alliance and help provide a consultative framework to inform Government policy development, and make recommendations for creating greener and more liveable cities.
