An £82m plant research centre at the University of Cambridge has won the UK's most prestigious architecture award, the Stirling Prize. The Sainsbury Laboratory, designed by Stanton Williams was named best new building by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) at a ceremony in Manchester.
It beat nominees including London's Olympic Stadium and the Hepworth art gallery in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

Roosevelt Island, America
Cornell University's plan for a new high-tech, applied-science campus on near the southern end of New York City's, Roosevelt Island, moved to the next phase on Monday when the city kicked off a seven-month review process to determine whether NYC Tech can break ground on its first building in 2014. Pending approval, the building designed by architect Thom Mayne's firm, Morphosis will be a five-story, 14,000-square-meter academic center consistent with the school's hands-on approach to learning.

East London, England
James Corner, the designer behind the much-lauded High Line park in New York has revealed his ambitions for the area of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park that he hopes will replicate its impact in east London. James says park will include 'outdoor rooms' including theatre, play space, music venue and labyrinth fountain.

Nestled in the newly formed Culture Park of Tianjin, Gerkan, Marg und Partners’ (gmp) Grand Theater has opened its doors to an eagerly awaiting public. Taking inspiration from the water-side setting, gmp’s structure takes a shell-like form, it’s exterior curved encasing three ‘pearls’: the opera hall, concert hall and a small multifunctional room. This natural form creates a bold cantilever, which offers shelter from the hot sun over a pedestrian walkway parallel to the lake.

A scant seven weeks after the Golden State Warriors selected the design team of Snohetta/AECOM for a proposed San Francisco waterfront arena, Craig Dykers, Snohetta principal, presented a conceptual scheme for the basketball team’s new home that he described as "a building that is part of the bay, part of the city."

Oslo, Norway
Italian architect Renzo Piano’s, designer of the acclaimed Shard in London, has created what is expected to be another iconic architectural feat, this time in Oslo Norway.
Commissioned by Selvaag Gruppen/Aspelin Ramm Gruppen, the ‘Astrup Fearnley Museet’ is a new museum of contemporary art designed by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop. It is aptly nicknamed the ‘Comb-Over’ building, as the museum is split into two halves, with a canal running through the middle, and a series of bridges linking the two sides.
