The Housing Industry Association (HIA)  is convening its sixth Building Better Cities Summit in Sydney on Tuesday 18 August 2015.

The HIA Summit, ‘Taxing the Australian Dream: Can we get the tax off housing?’ will analyse the existing taxation system in Australia, and the possibility of removing tax from new housing.

New housing is already overburdened with a range of taxes, levies and charges, many of which are inefficient, reducing housing affordability and limiting growth in the wider economy. Independent research shows that the level of taxation on new housing can be up to 44 per cent of a new house and land package, which limits the capacity of the industry to create employment, increase housing stock and provide shelter to the public that is affordable and meets their needs.

The HIA Summit will feature leading voices from local and global organisations, with the discussions to explore solutions to reverse the tax impost on new housing, and solutions that are fairer for home buyers, employers and the community, while delivering resources for governments to provide the infrastructure and services necessary for thriving communities.

The HIA Summit will be held at the Shangri–La Hotel Sydney on Tuesday 18 August 2015.
