The Design Matters Melbourne International Design Week will open on 11 May, showcasing some of the best of Australian and international design over seven days.

To be held 11 – 17 May, the 2015 Melbourne International Design Week will host a line-up of high profile Australian and international designers, and showcase interiors, furniture, illustrations, graphic and product designs across multiple events.

The annual week-long festival of arts, culture and design will include over 30 free and ticketed events.

Victorian Design Exhibition (11 - 16 May, Free Public Exhibition)

Victorian designers will officially launch the 2015 Melbourne International Design Week in Melbourne’s City Square. Open to the public, the event will display over 80 award-winning designs, specially selected by leading industry bodies including the Australian Institute of Architects, Australian Graphic Design Association, Digital Industry Association of Australia, Design Institute of Australia, Australian Institute of Landscape Architects and the Australian International Design Awards.

Australian Furniture & Design Trade Fair (Saturday 16 May, $43 General Admission)

Open to the public for just one day, this ticketed event presents Australian and international furniture, lighting, textile and interior design. Visitors can explore premium brands including Great Dane, Hermon & Hermon, Jardan, RTF, Tait, Yellow Diva and more under one roof at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Inspiration by Design: Word and Image from the Victoria and Albert Museum (20 March - 14 June, Free Exhibition)

This free exhibition at the State Library Victoria features one of the world’s largest and finest collections of book art, graphics and illustrations, with over 100 items on display including original hand drawn illustrations by Beatrix Potter, Pablo Picasso artist books, and fashion sketches, ephemera and photography from Dior, Versace and Comme des Garcons.

How People Work – Walking Tour (Wednesday 13 May 12 – 3pm, Free; Bookings Essential)

This hosted walking tour by Geyer, a leading independent interior design practice with six studios across Asia Pacific and a focus on human-centred workplace design, will take participants through Melbourne’s high profile contemporary and historic workspaces including the Westpac workspace on Collins St and the Nicolas Building.

Impresa (11 - 23 May, Free exhibition)

A quirky exhibition by Melbourne contemporary jeweller Anna Davern, Impresa showcases a unique range of brooches, made from salvaged biscuit tins that aim to communicate cultural identity. The jewellery show is hosted at e.g.etal contemporary jewellery and objects, a Melbourne gallery representing many of Australia’s leading contemporary jewellery designers and artists.
