Korean studio Yoon Space Design has installed eight portable ovoid pods to serve as outdoor cabins along a sandy beach in the Gangwon-do province of South Korea.
Named Albang, the pebble-like structures were hand-carved from blocks of expanded polystyrene, making them light enough to be easily transported to different seaside locations.
The designers chose the material for its resilience to seaside conditions, low cost, insulating benefits and light weight.
Each of the tiny portable seaside retreats is mounted onto small podiums and has a floor area of two square metres.
Colourful curved hatches and small porthole windows differentiate the otherwise white cabins.
Inside, the textured hand-formed white walls are contrasted with flat floors covered in diagonal slices of sap green and sky blue linoleum.
