The Commonwealth Bank is the first Australian financial institution to achieve a 5 Star Green Star for  their 'standard design' of their branch fitouts.

The template can now be replicated across CBA’s network in the future and means the bank's branches can become accredited Green Star a lot easier. .

The CBA branch fitout design’s 5 Star Green Star assessment reflects ‘Australian Excellence’. Assessed across nine impact categories, the design incorporates a number of sustainable elements including low chemical paints, Forestry Standard certified timber, reduced water consumption and energy savings of around 40 per cent when compared with existing branches.

Observing that the Commonwealth Bank understood how sustainable workplaces can cut costs, boost productivity and shrink a company’s environmental footprint, GBCA’s Chief Executive Officer, Romilly Madew said CBA worked with them on a simple approach that would make it easy for the bank to achieve Green Star assessment for new and refurbished branches.

This Green Star rating is the latest in CBA’s list of sustainability achievements, which include Commonwealth Bank Place in Sydney’s Darling Quarter being awarded Australia’s first ‘quadrella’ of 6 Star Green Star ratings for design, construction, interior fitout and operational performance.
