Standards Australia in partnership with the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air- conditioning and Heating will be hosting national seminar series on the revision to AS 1668 – The use of ventilation and air conditioning in buildings.

“The  forums  will  provide  an  opportunity  for  industry  participants  to  hear  first-hand from the technical  experts,”  said  Colin  Blair,  Chief  Executive  Officer,  Standards  Australia.  The series will outline to stakeholders the proposed division of AS 1668 – The use of ventilation and air conditioning in buildings into two parts:

  1. AS 1668.2 – Mechanical ventilation of buildings; and
  2. AS 1668.4 – Natural ventilation of buildings

The Standards Australia committee has prepared the documents for consideration by the Australian Building Codes Board for adoption in to the National Construction Code. Key proposed changes include:

  • Simplification of the methods for selection of minimum outdoor air;
  • Energy efficiency options across the documents;
  • Changes to the classifications of exhausts;
  • Improved provisions regarding odour control of exhaust discharge;
  • Review of ventilation rates for car parks; and
  • Part 4 – new standard covering natural ventilation.

The seminars are ideal for regulatory authorities, mechanical services designers, equipment manufacturers and suppliers, maintenance contractors, filter manufacturers and suppliers, facilities managers, and building owners.

Seminars will be conducted in Adelaide (December 10), Brisbane (December 3), Canberra (November 27), Darwin (December 4), Hobart (November 29), Melbourne (November 28), Perth (December 11), and Sydney (November 26).
