The 2013 HIA GreenSmart Home of the Year has been awarded to MAG Constructions and DNA Architects for their “Girasole” home.

The award was presented at the national HIA - Stratco GreenSmart Awards ceremony, where builders from around the country were acknowledged for their efforts in environmentally-responsible housing.

MAG Constructions and DNA Architects, of the ACT/Southern NSW region were awarded GreenSmart Home of the Year, and received the GreenSmart Spec Home Award for their innovative project, “Girasole”, which means to follow the sun.

The four bedroom home built on a steel framed motorised turntable and controlled by a touch screen pad, rotates automatically, synchronized to follow the sun or manually driven to suit the home owner’s needs.

Other HIA GreenSmart Award winners include Queensland’s Kenick Constructions, Horizon Housing and PanelBuild, Victoria’s Ovens & King Builders, Western Australia’s Right Homes and Econstruct, and Tasmania’s Leighton Building & Construction.

In congratulating the winners, HIA Managing Director Shane Goodwin said the HIA - Stratco GreenSmart Awards set the benchmark in progressive sustainable building techniques and products.

“The consumer demand for practical, affordable and durable environmental solutions for residential housing is ever growing; HIA is dedicated to recognising excellence in the field of environmental construction and design,” Mr Goodwin said.

“The HIA GreenSmart program is a voluntary initiative and accreditation our members can incorporate into their building practices in response to consumer demand,” Mr Goodwin said
