Sunday 8th September saw over 150 houses and display homes across Australia open their doors to the public for Sustainable House Day.

Homes featuring a variety of sustainable ideas showcased their innovative use of materials, renewable energy and recycling and presented experts in areas of green living and energy efficient products.

The theme for this year’s Sustainable House Day was “Circle of Change.”

“Sustainable House Day, presented by EnviroShop, Yingli Solar and Apricus, provides a unique opportunity for people to meet with home owners who have ‘been there, done that’ and are able to provide unbiased advice, ideas and inspiration via their own personal experience,” said event organiser, Pia Vorgin.

“There is nothing more valuable than the insight you get from touring a house and meeting with people who share their sustainable living journey.”

A key event at Sustainable House Day 2013 was the official opening of well-known ABC Gardening Australia TV presenter Josh Byrne’s sustainable house in Hilton, Western Austrlia.

Mick Harris the Managing Director for the EnviroShop has supported the event for many years and has opened his home several times to share the green living experience.

“We believe that Sunday September 8th represents a fantastic opportunity for Australians around the country to see for themselves how others are implementing the very latest technology in their homes to live in a far more sustainable manner,” said Mr Harris.
