The Australasian Corrosion Association (ACA) is hosting a seminar series that will inform attendees of the benefits of incorporating material durability assessments in project planning.
To be held at Auckland's Crowne Plaza on May 14, the seminar will be based on the premise that all structures will deteriorate over time so understanding the durability of buildings and their material composition is paramount to avoiding unnecessary maintenance costs and premature structural failure.
Choosing a corrosion protection system for a particular environment will be the key discussion topic for the seminar delegates, which will include keynotes from paint, galvanizing, engineering and town planning experts.
The performance merits of concrete, steel and other types of metals, plastics, and protective coatings will also be discussed in the context of design philosophy and building code compliance.
The ACA says that durability assessments are a misunderstood or under-appreciated component of building design but have the ability to provide a realistic expectation on the performance and maintenance cost over the life of the structure.
